The Fall and Winter months are my absolute favorite. While I miss the flowers and sunshine of Spring and Summer, nothing can top the general merriment that the colder seasons bring. I think I enjoy this time of year so much because of all the holiday festivities. I love Thanksgiving and Christmas is our favorite. I love the smells, the bustle, the colorful leaves, the need for a scarf and boots, and of course, all the marvelous beverages that resurface. While I enjoy a nice PSL from Panera and a minty Peppermint Mocha from Starbucks, I realize that those are not always the best options for my health or my pocketbook.
So I created a little concoction that gives me the warm and fuzzies of my favorite holiday beverages, but without the expense and with added health-boosting ingredients including:
- Cinnamon and Nutmeg Essential Oils: Cinnamon can promote healthy cardiovascular and immune function, while nutmeg supports the nervous and endocrine system and can improve energy. Plus, they both taste great and really give it a holiday flare.
- Coconut Oil: This adds a lovely creaminess to the coffee and the benefits and uses are endless.
- Grass-fed Butter: Butter in coffee sounds weird, I know. But I promise that you won’t even taste it, and it adds an awesome serving of healthy fat into your diet.
- Coconut/Almond Milk: For those who don’t tolerate dairy well, coconut milk and/or almond milk are excellent alternative; and of course, you can remove the butter.
It took me a few rounds of testing, but I finally made a batch that I L-O-V-E, so I wanted to share it with you, my friends!
Ingredients
- 1 cup of your favorite coffee
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 drop cinnamon essential oil
- 1 drop nutmeg essential oil
- 1 tsp coconut sugar
- small pad of grass-fed butter
- 1 tsp coconut oil
- 1/8 cup coconut milk
- 1/8 cup almond milk (you can use both coconut milk and almond milk or one or the other – whatever you prefer and have on hand!)
How to Make

- Mix all other ingredients and heat on low until combined
- Place coffee and mixture into blender and blend until combined
- Enjoy!

Ok. I am going to try this. BUT let me tell you. I’m frightened to put butter in my coffee. But I’m gonna do it. Just gonna need a pep talk before hand. This all sounds so good and I’m hardly one to say no to trying a new coffee drink!
I love all things coffee. I have yet to try butter in my coffee. I love making magic iced coffee, its a cup of christmas warm or cold. I’ll have to share it again. The mix deserves it’s own post. But this sounds delicious and all kinds of healthy too! Thanks for sharing!
Olivia do you worry about the properties of the oils changing at all when you’re adding them to something as hot as freshly brewed coffee? I was at a YL workshop yesterday and the instructor said YL doesn’t recommend that. Would love your thoughts!
Hi Steph! I don’t sweat it too much because my coffee isn’t typically super hot. But if you wanted to to raise the temp slowly, you can always add the oils to a tiny bit of lukewarm water, then add warmer water slowly to temper it 🙂
Sounds amazing! I have never tired an essential oil in food, but I would be willing to try it! Thank you!
