Taking Back Sunday

Things I will miss about nursing school:

Nada.

But I do have some good news on this topic and I’ve been dying to share it with you.

After lots of thought and prayer, we’ve decided that Dave will start working part-time instead of full-time for the remainder of nursing school.

Que singing choirs of angels and many relieved sighs from yours truly.Β

Going part-time was something we knew might need to happen sometime along this crazy ride, and I’m so grateful that weΒ are making that move now.

It’s just time. Nursing school is intense as I’ll get out and David has been killing himself over the past year and a half without a single complaint. He needs a day of rest. He needs a day to study. He needs a 24 hour period where he doesn’t have to be at work or school and can just devote himself to assignments and reading.

But mostly, we’re doing it for this:

We need some good quality time as a family. David is George’s favorite person on the planet, and vise versa, and we are all desperate for a few hours each week when we’re not rushing off to the next duty.

So what will be changing?

It doesn’t seem like much, but it’s a huge deal for us. So previously, Dave would be in class from Monday-Thursday and work three 12-hour shifts every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Everything will remain the same except that he will have Sundays off.

WE WILL HAVE SUNDAYS OFF!!!

For the first time in two years, we will be together on Sunday mornings. We will go to early Mass as a family, come home and enjoy coffee together, and I’ll make a big breakfast while Dave and George play together. Then, Dave will still be out the door by 10 a.m. to spend the rest of the day studying at the library. This will be so, so good for us. We’re taking back Sunday, and I couldn’t be more thrilled.

Thank you, sweet friends, for praying for us along this journey. I cannot tell you how much we need it and how much it has helped us get to this point of nursing school. I’m delighted that I get to share this news with you because you are a part of this adventure. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
